Paris-Ghent master’s exchanges

Supported by SPS, the exchanges between Paris and Ghent contribute to the internationalization of the Master’s in Plant Sciences

On March 19 and 20, first-year Master’s students in Plant Biochemistry and Biotechnology at Ghent University (Belgium) traveled to Paris as part of an educational exchange involving first-year students in the Master’s in Integrative Biology and Physiology (BIP) - Plant Sciences (SDV) of the Universities Paris-Cité and Paris-Saclay

On the agenda:

  • presentations of scientific projects by doctoral students, research engineers, and researchers;

  • visits to biotechnology platforms at the Institute Jean-Pierre Bourgin for Plant Sciences (IJPB), the Institute of Plant Sciences Paris-Saclay (IPS2), and the apple orchard at the Institute for the Diversity, Ecology and Evolution of the Living World (IDEEV);

  • a “Poster & Pizza” session, during which students were able to discuss with IJPB PhD students about their research.

This educational initiative aims to promote scientific exchanges by giving students the opportunity to learn about cutting-edge research conducted at another European university. In addition, these visits also allows them to improve their scientific communication skills in English and begin building an international network.

This stay in Paris follows on from the trip  by the students from the BIP–SDV Master’s program to Ghent last November. There, they visited the Plant System Biology (PSB) research center at the Flemish Institute for Biotechnology (VIB).

These exchanges, which are really appreciated by the students, promote the internationalization of the Master’s in Plant Sciences by encouraging   mobility between the two universities for internships.

The SPS network provides financial support to this educational initiative, which significantly contributes to two of its priorities: strengthening the links between education and research and promoting the internationalization of its training programs.
